In today's rapidly changing world, the importance of addressing climate change and reducing CO2 emissions cannot be overstated. As businesses and individuals alike grapple with the environmental impact of their actions, WorkFlex has taken a pioneering step to address the CO2 emissions problem head-on.

WorkFlex's Commitment to the Environment 🌿🌍

From September 21 to October 31, 2023, we at WorkFlex pledged to donate 5€ for every workation or business trip request to Climeworks' Direct Air Capture and Storage (DAC+S). This initiative started on the International Zero Emissions Day on September 21,2022, a day dedicated to giving our planet a break from the harmful effects of fossil fuels.

Why does WorkFlex “green“ workations and business travel?

We are aware that working from anywhere comes with a heavy environmental price tag. Workations and business trips often translate to increased flights, further straining our planet. A return flight between Hamburg and Madeira alone releases nearly one and a half tons of greenhouse gases per person. This is half the annual CO₂ budget per individual if we aim to limit global warming to under two degrees.

Contrary to expectations that the pandemic would drastically reduce business travel, recent data indicates that business trips are now exceeding even pre-pandemic numbers.

With this in mind, WorkFlex is committed to ensuring that our work flexibility doesn't jeopardise our environment. We believe in a greener future, and together, we can offset and even eliminate existing CO2 emissions 🍃♻️

Why not Traditional Offsetting? Why Climeworks‘ air capture storage and removal?

The latest report from the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) paints a clear picture: Urgent action is needed to halve emissions by 2030. This requires both a significant reduction in emissions and the removal of existing CO₂ from the atmosphere.

Thus, traditional offsetting is not enough as it is more about trading avoided emissions.

While it can lead to reduced emissions, it doesn't achieve the zero or negative emissions required to truly combat global warming.

Climeworks' DAC+S offers a permanent solution by physically removing CO₂. Using renewable energy sources, it captures CO₂ directly from the air and stores it safely underground. To put its efficiency into perspective, one of Climeworks' CO₂ collector containers can capture the equivalent CO₂ that 20,000 trees would absorb in a year.

The process is elegantly simple:

1.    Air is drawn into a collector, where a filter captures the carbon dioxide particles.

2.    Once the filter is saturated with CO₂, the collector heats up to around 100°C, releasing the trapped CO₂.

3.    The released CO₂ is then collected and safely stored underground by storage partners like Carbfix inIceland.
